• High resolution 2.5 inch LCD
• Dual memory card slots
The Olympus Evolt E-510 comes at the top end of Olympus’s entry level digital SLR camera line up. It features a 10 megapixel Live MOS sensor. With 10 megapixels you don’t need to worry about having enough megapixels to enlarge your favorite photos. With its 10 megapixel resolution digital photo editing is easier as well.
The 2.5 inch LCD screen enables you to easily see all your settings, navigate menus, and view all your photos. The Evolt E-510 also features live view mode. Not everyone wants to look through the viewfinder all the time. The live view mode makes it easy to see what you are shooting without having to look through the viewfinder. The LCD screen can display a live image of the action, letting you keep your eyes on the action.
With dual memory card slots, you should never run out of storage space. The E-510 features one compact flash drive and one xD card drive. You can transfer pictures between cards to free up space on one card without having to use a computer or deleting.
The built in dust reduction system will keep dust off the internal workings. Nothing is worse than having an image ruined by a spec of dust. The Dust Reduction system will save you time since you will be spending less time retouching photos that have dust in them.
If you suffer from shaky hands like the rest of us, getting a camera with image stabilization is a must. The Evolt E-510 features image stabilization to give you sharp images, even when the camera is moving. The image stabilization is built into the body of the camera, not the lens, so you can use it with any compatible lens.
The experts liked the E-510’s combination of both automatic and user settings. It also features the Live View mode, which helps people making the transition from compact cameras easier. Of course the Live View mode can be turned off to allow the use to view through the viewfinder.
The experts did feel the autofocus was a little slow and some of the auto settings were a bit off. This wouldn’t be an issue using the manual modes.
Users liked the feel of the camera. For first time users, the live view mode was useful as it helped frame shots and made the camera feel more like a point and shoot camera.
The Olympus Evolt E-510 is a great camera for those looking to get into digital SLRs. It provides a host of features at a reasonable price.
